Fine Arts
The Walton County School District’s Fine Arts Department is proud to provide students resources to develop their talent, abilities, and interests in Art, Music and Theatre. Education and engagement in the fine arts are an essential part of the school curriculum and an important component in the educational program of every student in the Walton County School District.
Taught by certified professionals, the Fine Arts Department and the schools they represent offer K-5 art and music as enrichment, as well as secondary elective opportunities in band, chorus, art, and theatre. We understand the impact fine arts instruction has throughout a student’s education. The Walton County School District welcomes the opportunity to further their passion for the arts.
The Importance of Fine Arts
Those who have studied learning processes throughout the ages, beginning with Plato, have emphasized the importance of the arts in the education process. Education in the arts is an integral part of the development of each human being. Arts education refers to education in the disciplines of music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. Study in the arts is integral to our society. They are a part of the cultural heritage of every American. The arts are what make us most human, most humane, and most complete as people. The fine arts also provide learners with non-academic benefits such as promoting self-esteem, motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression, as well as social harmony and appreciation of diversity. These are the very fibers of the fabric known as our American culture. The arts cannot be learned through occasional or random exposure any more than math or science can which is why the Walton County School District places such a high emphasis on Fine Arts.
