Music

Walton County Schools is fortunate to have numerous outstanding Music programs and certified K-12 Music educators.

In Elementary Music, all students have the benefit of instruction from a certified music teacher in a music room or designated music-making area. Students receive instruction based on the Florida Next Generation State Standards in movement, listening skills; basic elements of music, music vocabulary; instruments of the orchestra and band; world music and instruments; part singing; composition; improvisation, and historical and literary connections to music.

Middle School Music is offered as an elective, and taught by certified music teachers. Students receive instruction based on the Florida Next Generation State Standards. Courses include: Chorus, Band, Music Appreciation.  Content includes instruction in instrumental and vocal technique; reading/singing musical notation; music vocabulary; composition and arranging; improvisation; performance skills; careers in music; historical and literary connections to music. 

High School Music is offered as an elective and is taught by certified music teachers. Students receive instruction based on the Florida Next Generation State Standards Courses include: Vocal Techniques/Chorus, Instrumental Techniques, Music Theory, AP Music Theory, Band (Marching and Concert), Jazz Band, Guitar, and Keyboard. Content includes instruction in instrumental and vocal technique; reading/singing musical notation; music vocabulary; composition and arranging; improvisation; performance skills; careers in music; historical and literary connections to music, world music; music industry; music technology.
