Join us on January 23rd as we honor ALL of site-winners for Teacher of the Year and Educational Support Professional of the Year! We will also unveil our District Teacher of the Year and ESP of the Year! Stay afterward for a catered dinner!

Today we mourn the passing of former President Jimmy Carter alongside the rest of the country. Jimmy Carter was a strong proponent for quality education. Rest in Peace President Carter.

WELCOME BACK! We are ready to get back to work with the best students in the country! WHS is BUZZING this morning as students get back in the boat and ready to ROW! Let's Goooo!

We are fortunate to have providers as partners in the Walton County School District. CHELCO doesn't just keep the lights on, they help with numerous events through the year. Tina Rushing presented the District with a check tonight for capital credits from 2004! Thank you CHELCO!

We hope everyone has enjoyed their holiday break and is ready to come back and start STRONG! Can you believe it's 2025!? Classes resume for students tomorrow, Wednesday! It's going to be cold for the next few days, so make sure your students are prepared for cold weather!

Superintendent A. Russell Hughes spoke at the Walton County Bicentennial Celebration on Saturday! Walton County was established 200 years ago, and in the last 8 of those years the school district has risen to one of the top school districts in the state! The EPIC Van was downtown as well being manned by wonderful volunteers. If you're interested in volunteering check our website for more information! www.walton.k12.fl.us

Happy New Year to all! We're continuing to focus on our resolution to be the No. 1 school district in the state! Our students accomplished so much in 2024, we can't wait to see what they will accomplish in 2025! What are YOUR resolutions for 2025?

Merry Christmas to all! We hope you are all enjoying a day filled with family, fun, and love.

Superintendent Hughes sat down with district staff this morning for cocoa and conversation… Topics ranged from something others don't know about you to someone to whom you're thankful for a blessing in your life. Superintendent Hughes wanted to take a moment to remind all of us to be grateful for our families this holiday season!

Monday was an exciting day for the Walton County School District and the Freeport Community as the ribbon was cut on the new FMS! This ribbon cutting represents years of planning and execution. Thank you to Culpepper Construction and EMI Architects for their hard work and dedication to bringing this state-of-the-art facility to life for our students! Thank you to our school board (Jason Catalano, Jeri Michie, Tammy Smith, Kim Kirby, and Bill Eddins, Jr. ), who dedicated themselves to seeing this project through and to A. Russell Hughes for the vision of what COULD be for the students of the Freeport community. Thank you to the elected officials in attendance: Mayor Barley, Commissioner Curry, Representative Abbott and Councilman Dickey. More work is still being done on fields and grounds, but the school is READY! Congratulations to FMS's teachers, staff, and administration for making it happen amid an active worksite. Superintendent Hughes is well known for "High Expectation Without Excuse," and these individuals made it happen!

Do you really know what’s on your hands? Students from South Walton High School’s Health Occupations Students of America(HOSA) visited with 1st grade students at Dune Lakes to share a presentation on the importance of healthy eating, self care, and handwashing. They even brought out black lights to show students how handwashing really helps our hands get clean! EPIC collaboration!

School Board Chairperson Jason Catalano and Vice-Chairperson Jeri Michie traveled to the 79th Annual Joint Conference (FADSS/FSBA) last week to represent Walton County. Of course, Walton does everything in EPIC fashion, and that includes our Board! Jeri Michie won the ugly sweater contest, because she knows that's what we do! We WIN!
On a serious note, our board works tirelessly to help ensure the success of our students. The Board undergoes extensive training and is Master Board (MB) Certified. This certification requires more than 20 hours of coursework. Thank you to our board for your service to our children!

Science students at the Magnet Innovation Center gathered to debrief and discuss their projects after the Science Fair judging. Some of these projects are VERY complex! Do you think that increased bacterial diversity of food sources improve the likelihood of survival in Drosohilia melanogaster eggs? 🤯Whew!

We are blessed to have some incredible young scientists in the Walton County School District! The room was a BUZZ as the judges roamed the room at the Science Fair judging. The awards ceremony will be Thursday evening at 6pm at the CHAT Center.

We hope you all had a great break! We are back for three weeks, so let's finish this first semester STRONG! EPIlympiC!

We have some incredible young people in the Walton County School District, and over the next few days you'll hear from a lot of them! First up, FHS students are giving thanks!

The lunchroom at Freeport Learning Center was packed today as the students were joined by loved ones at lunch. Each class paraded in dressed in their turkey hats before heading to be served - we have so much for which to be thankful in Walton County, and these precious young students are one of our many blessings,

We sure do have a lot to be thankful for in the Walton County School District! We'd like to invite you to use our Let's Talk feature and send a word of Thanksgiving in to the District! Maybe you're thankful for the work of a particular employee, or you're just thankful to have a great school system - either way - text us a quick note at 850-204-9667, we would love to hear from you!

Reading is an integral part of child development. Studies show that reading and being read to at a young age have long term impacts into adulthood! Freeport Elementary is hosting their book fair through next week and it is FULL of amazing books!

Walton Middle School
served up a special meal today for students and their parents! Mr. Campbell was running food back and forth while Mr. Hulion and Mrs. Kent served parents who came to eat a special Thanksgiving meal with their students.
