As a reminder - all campuses and offices will be closed in observance of Veterans Day on November 11th, 2025. We would like to take a moment to recognize, remember, and honor the call-to-service that has been answered by more than 40 million Americans since our nation's founding in 1776. May we remember and honor those who have given of themselves in the service of our great country. Classes will resume as normal on Wednesday, November 12th.

The ribbon was officially cut at the new Magnet Innovation Center and the renovated Emerald Coast Technical College (Watersound). The space is a true testament to the power of what is possible when Vision is fused with Collaboration and Innovation. The Magnet Innovation Center began as the brainchild of Superintendent A. Russell Hughes and is home to some of the most hands-on and innovative learning modalities available anywhere - but it's right here in your backyard. Thank you to our community partners, St. Joe Foundation, School Board, and all of those who attended to help celebrate this special occassion!

Walton County’s Own Coleman Borthwick: Keeping the Charge Around the World
Walton County’s own Coleman Borthwick is taking his talents — and his hometown pride — to the world stage. A standout athlete from South Walton High School, Coleman recently represented the United States as a member of the U-18 National Baseball Team, competing in Japan and helping Team USA bring home the Gold Medal.
Coleman was recognized by the school board for his incredible accomplishments.
Playing for your country is an accomplishment few athletes ever achieve, and Coleman’s performance reflected not only his skill but also the character and work ethic shaped right here in Walton County. This work ethic landed Borthwick the 2025 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 MVP!
Coleman has big dreams — to play professionally — but his heart remains rooted at home. After his playing career, Coleman hopes to return to South Walton High School to follow in his father’s footsteps and carry on the family legacy as a coach and mentor to the next generation of athletes.
Coleman is Keeping the Charge by taking the excellence he crafted right here in Walton County out into the world and becoming a charging station for others — proving that when success starts at home, it can inspire far beyond it!
Way to go Coleman!

@habitatwaltoncounty presented the final key to Hope Village to Samantha Brown this week. Superintendent Hughes, and members of his cabinet, were there to support Samantha as her life and the life of her children was changed for the positive! Samantha is a WCSD alumna and has children in the District. Thank you to Habitat for Humanity for changing lives!! Samantha and her family were met by former NFL running back Warrick Dunn who partnered with Habitat for Humanity to have the house fully furnished and stocked! Let us know when you need some extra hands on the next build!

Have you seen a new light shining in Paxton?! The Paxton School marquee brightens Highway 331. The perfect reminder of how education lights the way for our communities.
Paxton has always been more than a school — it’s the centerpiece of a community. Each student, teacher, family, and community member that crosses the threshold of Paxton School takes a little of that light into their community.
When schools shine, communities shine — and Paxton’s light is shining bright!!

The Florida Association of School Safety Specialists (FS3) held their yearly regional meeting at the Walton County School District's CHAT Center today. Region 1 is comprised of 17 counties from Taylor County all the way to Escambia County. FS3 is a statewide organization committed to ensuring the safety of our students. FS3 is made up of School Safety Specialists, District Threat Management Coordinators, and Mental Health Specialists - all with the same goal of keeping kids safe physically and emotionally. The Region 1 meeting gives these professionals a forum to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and learn from industry experts. We are here to learn, but our first priority is to ensure the safety of our students.

The Walton County School District believes in Preparing the Whole Child for a Life of Success - that means being able to explore your passions in whatever form they manifest. Mrs. Gomillion's beginning band students were working diligently on their fundamentals today. Music, while being a worthy area of study on it's own, does incorporate and bring to life math, physics, language arts, and more. Whether your passion is sports, drama, music, or anything else - you can explore it in the WCSD!

Dune Lakes Elementary is celebrating National School Lunch Week with style!
12 months ago, WCSD
It's National School Lunch Week! Our students are headed around the world as they grab their school lunch passport! Today, students at FES are tasting Mexico with Taco Tuesday.
Did you know that tacos are thought to come from Mexico, long before the Spanish arrived. Ancient Mexicans used freshly made, soft, flat corn tortillas and filled them with things like fish and cooked organs. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, they introduced new ingredients like pork, beef, and cheese, which were incorporated into the existing dishes, leading to the evolution of the modern taco!
Mmmmm, look at those fresh ingredients!
