Freeport Elementary School Kindergartners are hard at work preparing for their Spring program next week! Ms. Saltsman and the Kindergarten teachers have put together a fun and engaging program. These Wildcats are as EPIC on stage as they are in the classroom!

Success is not measured solely by academic achievement but by the content of one's character. Part of being EPIC is the display of the fundamental pillars of integrity, empathy, and kindness. These young people were chosen by their Principals for their citizenship and honored today by the Kiwanis Club. Congratulations to these students for being EPIC members of their community!

Weather Update from the Walton County School District for tomorrow, Monday, May 13. State and local officials have received the latest weather update which indicating that current forecasts and weather experts suggest the first round of storms are expected to arrive at approximately 9 am and last until 3 pm. This is a multi-state weather system. The school district has been advised that our biggest concern is rain with the possibility of scattered severe thunderstorms. Schools will continue with their regular schedules tomorrow. Decisions regarding after-school and extra-curricular activities will be made tomorrow and communicated to parents as quickly as possible as information regarding additional rounds of storms becomes available. The weather is unpredictable and we appreciate your patience as keeping children safe is our number one priority!

Buses are beginning their routes. Any absences today will be excused as we understand that some homes are without power or may have experienced damage.

Based on recent weather data from Walton County Emergency Management and local weather authorities, all Walton County Schools will have a three-hour delayed start on Friday, May 10th. Due to this delay, there will be no Pre-K at any school on Friday, May 10th. The three-hour delay includes all students and employees. Bus schedules will also run on a three-hour delay. For example, if your student’s bus typically arrives at 7 am, their pick-up time will be 10 am. School dismissal times will run as normal and end-of-day transportation schedules will be unchanged. Deputy Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Hawthorne attended the ribbon cutting of the new Santa Rosa Beach Walmart Wednesday morning. Dune Lakes Elementary Principal Brian Michie and new South Walton High School Principal Nina Borthwick were presented with donations to their schools. Thank you Walmart and welcome to Walton!

Future Farmers of America (FFA) is a valuable program in the Walton County School District that teaches students the skills necessary to pursue agriculturally oriented careers. For others, it's an opportunity to learn where our food comes from and how it makes it to the table or grocery shelf. Superintendent A. Russell Hughes dropped by Walton Middle School's FFA Night last week to check in on these students! Mr. Odon Russell was recognized as the FFA Person of the Year for his over 40 years of mentorship and advisorship to FFA students.
