Plants 3rd

Our third graders have been busy being plant scientists! Using lima beans, they explored how plants grow and respond to the world around them. First, students placed dry lima beans in damp paper towels to watch them germinate—that’s the special process when a seed wakes up and begins to grow. They noticed tiny roots stretching downward and stems starting to reach upward. This helped them understand how roots take in water and nutrients and how stems support the plant as it grows. Next, students placed plants near a window and made exciting discoveries! Over several days, they observed how the plants grew toward the sunlight, showing how plants respond to light and gravity. Through these hands-on observations, students learned that plants use energy from the Sun, air, and water to make their own food, and they saw firsthand how living things are designed to survive and thrive. We’re so proud of our curious scientists for asking great questions and caring for their growing plants!
