C1C Dustin L. Hayhurst Wins USAF Cadet of the Year! The British Air Squadron, a private organization comprised of British citizens, established this award to pay tribute to the U.S. military for its support of the United Kingdom over the years. The award recognizes the most outstanding cadet in an Air Force Commissioning Program. Air Force officials are pleased to announce C1C Dustin L. Hayhurst, U.S. Air Force Academy, as the winner of the 2011 USAF COTY Award. As Group Superintendent (during his second class year), Cadet Group One, Cadet Hayhurst was ranked number 1 of 1,110 cadets in academics and overall performance, earned membership in both the Engineering and National Aerospace Honor Societies, and was selected for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Summer Research Program. Cadet Hayhurst was also responsible for accountability systems, discipline databases, and the readiness of more than 1,000 cadets for Cadet Group One. Next semester, Cadet Hayhurst will attend an official presentation ceremony in Washington, D.C. Dustin Hayhurst is a 2008 Freeport High School graduate who is now in his senior year at the United States Air Force Academy. Additionally, Dustin was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist.
