Technology Services

   It is our objective to keep the equipment in County up and running so teachers and students have constant access to equipment and software. If you need technical support, please contact our help desk at ext. 4357 (Help) .


Technology And Information Services is made up of three key components; Instructional Technology, Network Services, and Information Data. These components serve all departments on campus. Each year our Technology Services Department works on many exciting activities and projects that support students and staff in enhancing the learning environment. 
These school-wide service areas are supported with a variety of computers and platforms, software, digital devices, assistive devices, network and Internet services, data and information services, wireless and videoconferencing support, and maintenance/technical support on thousands of items for students and staff.

Hardware
   Technology has become an integral part of not only the business functions of the school district but also the learning environment.  Technology is used to support the curriculum and to provide enhanced learning experiences for all students. Technology is also integrated into the management of the classroom and the assessment of student progress.

    The Technology Services Department of Walton County Schools provides, coordinates and supports a wide range of services and opportunities for the students and staff of the district.  The department is responsible for installation, maintenance and on-going replacement of all desktop computers. It provides high-speed network access to the Internet, email and server-based applications.  Network design, server configuration, software testing and deployment, help desk support, web development, Intranet applications, training, network security and cabling infrastructure are provided by technicians on staff.


Software
    Technology is placed in schools to support and enhance the curriculum.  Standardized age-appropriate software is selected that enables teachers at different grade levels to focus on specific areas of the curriculum or on different skills.  Walton County also provides various online resources, activities to address learning computers skills, distance learning opportunities, teacher productivity tools and software to computerize school operations. 

    All software approved for use by Walton County School District ensures a standardized and controllable network environment that supports the mission of the Walton County School District.


Connectivity
    Without a secure, reliable, state-of-the-art network in place, it is virtually impossible to deploy the applications that schools want to offer and to meet national, state and district mandates.

    Managing the network infrastructure is becoming an increasingly complex task. The utilization of the network in education provides exceptional opportunities for users but it also increases the associated risks.  Technology Services must continually find new solutions that improve bandwidth, provide additional features and protect against new vulnerabilities. 

Technology Staff
    The Technology Services Department provides technical leadership and expertise to all areas of the school system, administrative as well as instructional. The staff is responsible for network engineering, technical support, user support, software maintenance, web resources, infrastructure, Internet access, security and repair of all computers in the district. The department is also responsible for the web site and all major business applications including student information management.
