Target Early Childhood Reading Grant:  Reading grants are awarded to schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations, supporting programs such as weekend book clubs and after-school reading programs that foster a love of reading and encourage children, from birth through age 9, to read together with their families.  Guidelines:  Target will accept grant applications online between March 1 and May 31, 2009, for programs taking place between October 1, 2009, and September 30, 2010. You will receive notification about your request by September 30, 2009. Most grants average between $1,000 and $3,000Apply Online:   You may apply for grants from March 1 through May 31

 

 

New Science Teacher Academy Fellowship:  For middle and high school science teachers who are in their 2nd or 3rd year of teaching. Program provides professional development, mentoring and support for science teachers.  Visit the website for more information.  Deadline June 1, 2009

 

 

National Education Association Foundation/Learning & Leadership Grant:  Grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research.  Individual and group grants available. History Channel/Save Our History Initiative:  Elementary, middle, and high school teachers are eligible who teach American, state, or local history in a social studies or history class.  The goal of Save Our History is to inspire the youth in our communities to become the preservationists of tomorrow.  Award of $10,000.  Deadline for application is June 5, 2009.  Apply Online.

 

 

National Education Association Foundation Student Achievement Grant:  Grants to improve the academic achievement of students in the areas of critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter.  The work should also improve students’ habits of inquiry, self-directing learning, and critical reflection.  Visit the website for specifics.  Amount $5,000Application deadline is June 1, 2009.

 

 

Nature of Learning Grant Program:  National Fish and Wildlife Foundation provides this grant to provide community-based environmental education for the use of “outdoor classrooms”, interdisciplinary approach to learning, utilize field experiences and student-led projects that connect classroom lessons to real world issues, and partner local schools, community groups, natural resource professionals and businesses.  Visit the site for specifics.  $10,000 Grant award.  Deadline is June 15, 2009

 

Captain Planet Foundation Grants:  Funding projects that promote understanding of environmental issues, focus on hands-on involvement, involve children ages 6-18, promote interaction and cooperation.  Visit the site for specifics.  Grants $250-$2,500.  Deadline for applications is June 30th.
